Not a Coward by sugarpoultry Not a Coward by sugarpoultry
Seriously.

:iconreadplz:

Sometimes, we artists who disable simply do not care what people have to say about our deviations. Maybe we don't want input or critique, maybe we don't want people to attack us (because avoiding drama is usually a mature thing to do), so who knows.

I personally am OK with discussing opposing opinions, but most people, especially on dA, don't have that in mind. They just want to say "You're wrong because of X, I'm right because of Y" and the argument goes on and on to something futile and utterly pointless. For me, I disable comments for that very reason.

Wanna know something really sad? I've actually been into arguments over this very subject: comments being disabled. People get very upset and passionate that they were stripped of their 'right' to express their opposing opinion. Well, too bad! LOL It's my page, my deviation. I can do whatever I want with it.

Yes, its the internet, and as we all know, if its up there, everybody can see it, and somebody can say something about it, but seriously guys, not everything HAS to have a counter/opposition/negative response to it. We all have the right to state our opinions loud and clear, and not listening to your opinion doesn't make me a coward or an intolerant bigot. Its just me trying to avoid the inevitable; pointless drama.

Yes, avoiding drama is usually the reason why they are disabled. Sorry, but I am proud to avoid the annoying people here on dA who like to spat out their hate, insults, and opinions with no real intent of holding a mature and civilized discussion or debate. Why should I have to deal with that type of BS on an ARTWORK site? No, I shouldn't. DEVIANTART IS NOT THE PLACE FOR DRAMA! If you want drama, go complain somewhere else. So for that reason, I see disabling comments as a legit reason to keep dA what its meant to be, an art site. Getting into petty fights is probably the last thing the site creators want.

Now, let me get one thing straight: Disabling comments does not mean we aren't tolerant to other people's opinions. Most of the time, sharing opinions is fine and dandy, and at least in the real world we won't have to deal with hardcore trolls who resort to name-calling and want to make you look bad. But on an internet website, and again, an ART site, I really don't care to get into deep debate or discussion.

Sadly, I get the feeling this stamp itself is going to be a hot spot for drama, since as stated above, there are a lot of people who really get passionate about not being able to state their opposing views. It's sad people get so worked up over disabled comments. I mean sure, I come across something that pisses me off, but I DO NOT try to pick a fight with them. And if their comments are disabled, I very rarely if ever comment on it anyways. Usually I treat deviations I don't like all the same way: move on with my life.

But whatever, I'll leave comments up, but like stated above, I have no shame whatsoever to uncheck that "Allow Comments" box. ;) So if you like the stamp, fav it, if not, sure, whine to me. Complain that its stupid, I don't care... but if things get out of hand, I will hide comments, and possibly, one day, disable them. YAY! :la:

Indeed, but it does prohibit intellectual progression.
It's fine if you want it though, nothing wrong with that.

Takes great skill to express thoughts in real life, true. Nowhere to hide. I prefer that. Because when people get backed into a corner, they lash out online. In real life, they usually just get quiet.

All in all, it was coded in by DA for a reason, so using it shouldn't be judged. It's a tool, not a red letter. Whatever reasons you have, they're you're own and should be respected.

I would disable comment on my art, if the person who comment on my art spamming on my arts with inappropriate language (leet speak including) or if the person didn't give a constructive criticism on my art.

I would disable comments if I don't feel like arguing with anyone over different opinions, as well as to avoid flamers, spammers, & trolls. After all, I do NOT tolerate any drama and it makes me look bad when I'm in it.

I agree.

Especially for popular deviants, DD's, old deviations and old stamps are all very common reasons to disable comments. They can just be overwhelming with the amount of feedback thay get, or they get sick of hearing the same stuff over again. Nothing cowardly there.

I love debating. It's in my nature. (I'm not a bad person. D: )  Personally, I love to see other peoples opinion. To see inside their thoughts of something that could mean more than what you think. I'm willing to "argue" with a person IF they don't act like a butt about their opinion.

Sure, I don't do this all the time, but once in awhile it's good to share knowledge and insights from another person. Or maybe that's just me.. Sometimes arguments can lead to friendship. That's how I gained one of my most beloved friends.

I don't believe arguing should be a violence and hated thing. It should be a time where you can share your thoughts with someone, and the share theirs back. This is really hard for me to explain..I hope someone at least understands what I mean. Not to agree, but just to get what I am saying.

Anyways, getting to the real reason why I commented..

It's hard to believe that some people would rage for not being able to comment. I fully understand why some artist disable their comments. I'm not an artist, so I can't really relate. Drama is a tough thing to avoid, and having that glorious button that can block it all..it's a gift.

But what does the critique feel when they can't express their feelings for the art piece? I've had this happen to me once..I really loved the piece but the comments were disabled. I wasn't mad. More surprised..I just faved and left. Are people really so hurt that they can't comment that they have to rant to the artist?

Maybe it's just me that thinks that.

I don't like people who hates others which disable comments. I mean I hate when someone say that disabling comments is cowardy. I agree with this stamp 100% but sometimes people are just haters and do a hate stamps. In such things they SHOULD ENABLE comments cause if tehy starts hating so... they should be responsible for the words and let anyone don't agree with them.

I have a very old Stamp. The Opinion on it doesn't has anything to do with me anymore, since I was pretty young when I made it. But for the Sake of those who still stand for the Meaning of it I left the Deviation there, but disabled Comments since I didn't wanted to hear the "I don't agree with your Opinion and I have nothing better to do then telling you this."

Otherwise. If they are nice/constructive/funny... I love Comments. w

I know that some people disable comments because people are mean to them about something they maybe drew say when they were fifteen. Understandable you're tired of getting comment for a really old something.
Disabling comments because of a TROLL. I also understand. You are tired of having one or two people filing up your inbox with their trash. It's not cowardly. You are just trying to allow more room for other stuff to be sent in.
Old art that you no longer like and are getting crap for it. Disable? Go right ahead.
Trying to get more critiques for your other art and not just one piece. By all means disable away.

People don't seem to understand that there are millions of reasons to disable comments. for some people they disable because they honestly can't handle mean words online let alone in public. There are people who never want comment's just because they don't want to deal with them in their inbox it's as simple as that

I disabled comments because somebody was being a troll. All of the comments that I got afterwards were people asking why I removed the stamp so I just removed the deviation and relaxed.

I'm so agree with this stamp, seriously what's the deal with all that "attention whores"? just creating controverse, for example a mouth ago another user of DA came and start bitching and complaining about a comment that I wrote in another user's deviation, a comment that I wrote SEVEN MOUTHS AGO, can you belive it? uggg, that kind of persons are peetty patethic, and have pattethic arguments to "explain" the why a user disable comments or even block them, I know that Blocking is kind of a "rude" thing, but some users are just to annoying

I like this stamp, especially the message. You bring up really good points. I'm going to put it on my profile.

I usually don't disable comments unless I post something that will attract attacks and drama. It's to protect myself, just as you do. Self-defense is not cowardly. I understand the freedom of speech and our right to express our opinions, but we must not abuse them. We can't use our rights and freedom to violate others' rights and freedom, which is what attackers do.

I only disable comments because I don't want them, doesn't mean it makes me a coward.I'm tougher than someone would think, believe me.I don't really like comments because I don't.I don't mind being critiqued at all,and yeah,I'll allow comments when I want critique.Ppl need to not be complaining about someone disabling comments.A lot of ppl do disable comments anyway, and we'll never know the reason, which is why it's wrong to assume that someone is being a coward/pussy if they disable comments.

I only excuse others who disable comments if their artwork is sooooo good that it gets 30 comments every hour or something. It really piles up if you're gone or take a break for month off of DA. But other than that. If it's something like a controversial stamp, then I say, "F*ck you. You KNEW what would happen. Wussbag"

I agree with this. People who are getting mad at other disabling comments are the very ones looking for trouble. You are right about this site not being a place for drama. I know some people find drama entertaining, but it can lead to real bad results if not taken care of properly. I personally all arguments and drama as much as possible, because it is pointless, especially if it is over something minor (if it were major, we'll discuss it a little and then I will end the conversation and not take it too far if the same words are flying back and forth).

I honestly do not see how someone disabling comments makes them a wimp (if they are purposely hiding from criticism, maybe this might be the case). I personally hide comments on picture I do not care for comments on or if I changed a style of my characters. If I feel there is some kind of "trolling" going on, I will disable comments for that reason, too. It is not going to hurt the artist to hide from unnecessary comments.
