Wolf Sanctuary 1 by sugarpoultry Wolf Sanctuary 1 by sugarpoultry
I can't believe I haven't uploaded any of these to dA yet! *is ashamed*

This was last summer vising Wolf Mountain Sanctuary, in Lucerne Valley, CA, its an amazing establishment where you get the rare opportunity to go inside and interact with the wolves face to face!

This is Segoni, he is the oldest wolf they have at the park. He jumped up on his hut to get a better look at us. hehe!

Cool.

A wolf sanctuary is an awesome idea. The sad thing is that most people misunderstand wolves.

At least we have people who care about these wonderful animals and want to protect them and help them out.

You could make this picture into a beautiful painting :)

Hehe yeah, I used these pictures as reference. Plus just seeing them in person, how they walk, move, etc. it helped my art literally over night. I didn't sketch while I was watching though. XD

My neighbor was caring for a wolf who lost her leg to cancer. She was always so sweet and gentle and I used to sneak into the yard to pet her. She and the half-wolf they had passed away recently. This brings back good memories.

Yes, I believe you have to be over like 13 or 14 to go. And also, since you're a girl, this might be weird, but they said not to come when you're on your period. LOL Cuz the wolves smell the blood and it makes them really on edge, and they've even attacked people cuz of it. XD

Sure, I fostered for them before, they have full blooded wolves and hybrids that people think are "cool" and realize are a handful of trouble! Shy Wolf Sanctuary is in Naples, FL. They do tours in the summer I believe. And there's a few up in the Appalachian mountains in NC near me, one being the Wolf Sanctum. If you've got a thing for the big cats, they also have a big cat sanctuary in NC.

Yeah, this same one, the Wolf Mountain Sanctuary is the same one the Twilight makers went to to study the wolves. I haven't heard any news about them shutting down, but they are sort of out in the middle of nowhere, very low advertising, I wouldn't be surprised if they are struggling.

Huh, odd. In Colorado, they've been advertising the wolf sanctuary on park benches, youtube, etc. Question is though is that if they can't support the sanctuary in California, what's gonna happen to the wolves?

Also, glad you had a nice time.

Its in Southern California.

And I saw your journal, and I'm not as 'angry' as you are about it. Personally I don't think they are endangered, and I live in Idaho, I saw the damage the wolves did, and I supported the population control. But, all differences aside, I'm for animal conservation, but I don't get too uptight over stuff like that, like ever.

Oh darn. I live in Oklahoma so I won't be able to go :(. As for the being angry, I wouldn't say 'angry', but...up in arms? Nah, I'm not too sure. Anyway, I get upset when I hear that wolves are in danger. I admit I may be overreacting, but my thinking is 'if it gets started here, where will it end?' Again, I may be overreacting, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Yeah, and I've done my share of donations to this sanctuary, as well as one here in Idaho that I wanted to go to but never got the chance. I want my wolf pals to be alive and well in the wild, but sometimes, it just happens, and you can't stop it.
